YOUR INSTRUCTORS...

Jessica - Owner and Main Instructor

Jessica was born in Lytham St. Annes but moved to Phoenix, Arizona at a young age due to her severe asthma. She started practicing Pilates while at high school in Phoenix. While at college she broke her back from snowboarding. To aid in her rehabilitation she was introduced to the “classical” system and really began to understand the magic that is Pilates.

Jessica continued studying Pilates in both the USA and then the UK and on returning to Lytham 2010, she attended the Inner Power Pilates studio under the teachings of Kelly Thorn and Sarah Wilson. Eventually in 2018 she decided to take the leap to become a qualified Mat and Reformer teacher, subsequently taking courses to add on the remainder of the equipment. She is continually taking professional development courses with world-renowned 2nd generation Pilates teachers who continue to teach and share the knowledge of Mr. Joseph Pilates on all aspects of the practice.

Jessica has always been known as an “accident looking for somewhere to happen,” and has broken or injured practically every bone her body.  However, she can honestly say that through her love and passion of Pilates her body feels stronger, is more flexible, and is in less pain than it was 15 years ago!

Ashley - Mat Instructor

Ashley has had a successful career as a professional dancer for 14 years. Ashley started taking Pilates classes a couple of times a week and fell in love with it. She felt stronger and knew she had found something transformational.

She helps clients to understand not only how to move and use the body in different and challenging ways, but how and why specific movements help build strength, endurance and reduce tension and pain.

Pilates is important to her because it represents her approach to life: Stay flexible. Stay strong. Pilates is one of the few movement practices that her body truly enjoys. It actually feels GOOD while you do it and there's less need for "recovery" time.

WHAT IS PILATES

Pilates is a training method named after its inventor Joseph Pilates who developed the system over 90 years ago.

It is a system of exercises that will help you be in control of your body rather than at its mercy.

It is not just about breathing and stretching, it is a challenging full body workout that teaches you to move with control, corrects imbalances and postural problems, helps to develop your body evenly so that you look and feel better,  and to move better in everyday life.

At Lytham Pilates, we believe that Pilates is for every body and every one.

(Although not all exercises are suitable for every one.)

A traditional Pilates workout is done on an apparatus that uses springs for resistance, such as the Reformer and Tower.  The Pilates Matwork repertoire was designed to be your homework;  to practice the work at home.

The Matwork is also the hardest place for a beginner to start as you have to support you own bodyweight and resist gravity. Whereas, the apparatus uses springs to give support and resistance and ultimately will bring change to your body that the mat can't do alone.

A workout on the Pilates equipment will build pelvic stability,  improve your strength, stretch any tight spots, and improve your overall stamina...
